Eccleshall 1s 228-9 (55 ovs) lost to Moddershall & Oulton 1s 230/4 (52.4 ovs) – Eccleshall 7pts, Moddershall & Oulton 20pts
Eccleshall were left to rue a late collapse as they saw visitors Moddershall & Oulton chase down their target with two overs to spare in a run-filled game at the Roy Thomson Memorial Ground.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, the home side set a solid platform with Hibbert brothers, Tom and Dave, putting on 98 for the first wicket before the latter was bowled for 52.
Tom (74) then shared a second wicket stand of 93 with Australian Nathan Hinton (64), but it was this pair’s dismissals that triggered a collapse by the hosts as they searched for late runs to take their score over 250.
Eccleshall were only able to add 35 runs from the final 10 overs and lost 8 wickets, as Tom Hope (4-38) and Wasim Jaffer (2-21) kept the target in check.
Fraser Hawkins got the run-chase off to a positive start with a brisk 29, but attempted one big shot too many and was caught at mid-on off the bowling of Zain Shah.
Mitchell Kelsall had made 34 when he was bowled by Hinton. But it was the 110-run third wicket partnership between Sam Kelsall and Wasim Jaffer that effectively won the game for the visitors.
Skipper Sam, was eventually dismissed for 53 and Jaffer 84 as Tom Hope knocked off the winning runs in the 53rd over.
