Newcastle & Hartshill 1s 219/5 (38.3 ovs) beat Eccleshall 1s 216/6dec (45 ovs) – Newcastle & Hartshill 20pts, Eccleshall 7pts 

Eccleshall’s woes continued as they slumped to their fifth successive defeat.

Having lost the toss and been put in to bat, the Eccleshall innings got off to an impressive start as Myles Coughlan and Nathan Hinton reached 88 before Coughlan was caught at cover for 33. 

Hinton then formed an alliance with Dave Freeman (40) but was dismissed for 94 as he played-on as his side searched for quick runs late on to allow for a declaration after the weather had claimed 23 overs. 

Zanzima Pongolo picked up 3 for 64 and Elliot Maginnis 2 for 34, as the visitors declared on 216 from 45 overs. 

Ethan Brown (24) began the run-chase in positive fashion before Myles Coughlan had him caught attempting one big shot too many. 

South African Pongolo followed up his bowling efforts with a pacy 80 with the bat, as he and Andy Whitehead (56) put on 126 for the third wicket, with the hosts reaching their target to win by 5 wickets.


Eccleshall 2s 219/9dec (46 ovs) beat Meakins 3s 46ao (20.5 ovs) – Eccleshall 25pts, Meakins 4pts 

Eccleshall moved into the top two with a thumping victory over bottom-side Meakins. 

Si Howland top-scored with 51, with Joe Pelter also making 50 and Matt Buttery 44 as the hosts reached 219 in 46 overs before declaring. Abdullah Hashmi was the pick of the attack with 4 for 52. 

Buttery then made merry with the ball for Eccleshall as he picked up 6 for 20, with James Carruthers claiming 3 for 19.
