Shifnal Town 3-0 Stone Old Alleynians

Stone Old Alleynians fell to their third defeat in a row as they went down to Shropshire side Shifnal Town.

Three second-half goals, including a contentious penalty saw the hosts help themselves to the points, but Old Boys manager Matt Smith was left unimpressed with his side and the officials: “It’s a frustrating performance and result. We have had to play a couple of lads with injuries due to low numbers and the officials haven’t helped with some of the decisions that have been given, but we have let ourselves down with a really bad 10 minutes after they were gifted the penalty and we only have ourselves to blame.”

The visitors started poorly, and were indebted to Cameron Bliss who made several smart saves to keep the scores level.

It took until midway through the half for Alleynians to get a foothold in the game, with the lively Sam Wilson responsible for Stone’s best chance, as he crossed for striker Jack Tomlinson, who could only head over the bar.

Shifnal’s best chance fell to Nathan Jackson at the start of the second half, when he pounced on indecision in the Stone defence to go clear, but dragged his shot wide with the goal at his mercy.

The game turned on the hour mark, when Danny Heard was harshly adjudged to have brought down Ryan Hadley in the box, and Jackson stepped up to atone for his earlier miss.

Seth Ellis doubled the lead minutes later when he reacted fastest after Bliss had saved Tom Hill’s shot to turn home the rebound.

Hill was also involved in the build up to third as he went clear but was tackled by the recovering Adam Pope, with the loose ball falling into the path of Ryan Bright, who calmly rolled the ball home.

The Old Boys rallied, with Tomlinson twice coming close to finding the back of the net, as he drew a save from Tom Whittaker with a fierce drive from distance, before he saw an effort blocked on the line after Cameron Sinclair’s corner fell to him.

Sam Wilson was unlucky not to grab a late consolation when his header was well saved by Whittaker.
