Pegasus Juniors 1-4 Stone Old Alleynians

Stone Old Alleynians stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with an impressive victory away at Herefordshire side Pegasus Juniors.

Manager Matt Smith was left delighted with his side’s display and was impressed by one player in particular: “I thought Sam Wilson was incredible, it was a complete midfield performance. We are on a good run at the minute, with lots of positives to take, and hopefully we can continue in the nine games that are left and finish as high as possible.”

The Old Boys started brightly and saw themselves ahead early on when Richard Hewitt’s right-wing cross found Sam Wilson unmarked in the box and he calmly finished from 6-yards.

Their lead was doubled inside five minutes after good play down the left saw Ollie Davies cross which skipper Paul Griffiths turned home.

And it was nearly three half-way through the half when Matt Thomas latched onto a long Ian Whalley pass and went clear, but was forced wide by Max Harris and saw his shot cleared off the line by Jack Lewis, before Jimmy Lee fired the rebound narrowly over the bar.

Alleynians were punished for taking their foot off the gas when Tom Boyle met Carlos Moreira’s cross at the far post to half the deficit.

But the goal sparked a response from the visitors, and Danny Heard saw his effort blocked on the line after Jimmy Lee had jinked his way into the box and cut the ball back to the front man.

Wilson nearly got his second of the game with a stunning dipping volley from 25-yards that flew inches over the bar on the stroke of half-time.

The hosts rallied in the second-half, and nearly capitalised when Stone sloppily surrendered possession but Boyle saw his effort come back off the post.

And all hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Matt Thomas finished low into the bottom corner after being sent through by Jimmy Lee.

Thomas made sure of the points by sending Harris the wrong way from the spot after Jack Tomlinson had been brought down in the box.
