Eccleshall 1s 118ao (38.5 overs) beat Norton-in-Hales 97ao (30.5 overs) – Eccleshall 25pts, Norton-in-Hales 6pts
Eccleshall were indebted to their bowlers as they secured a much needed win at home to table-toppers Norton-in-Hales.
The hosts suffered another batting collapse after winning the toss and choosing to bat, finding themselves 56 for 5 when Dave Freeman was bowled for 21 by Jack Furnival. But valuable contributions from Dave Hibbert (19), Rob Lakin (18) and Braden Gardner (16) saw them reach three figures.
Zafar Iqbal was the pick of the visitors attack, taking 5-28, his fifth 5-wicket haul this season.
The visitors’ reply got off to a poor start when Gardner (3-26) trapped Zac Holm lbw in the first over and didn’t get any better when they found themselves four down in the eighth over.
The introduction of spinner Myles Coughlan (4-19) helped the Eccleshall cause, as he helped to reduce the visitors to 59-9, but skipper Michael Dyer offered late resistance with a gutsy 28, alongside Chris Dyer (20*) before the former was out lbw by Zain Shah.
Burslem 2s 170ao (38.1 overs) lost to Eccleshall 2s 258/3dec (48 overs) – Burslem 5pts, Eccleshall 25pts
Jake Derry’s side also secured 25pts with an impressive win at Burslem.
The skipper made 81 in a 123-run stand with Si Howland, who notched his first century for Eccleshall with an unbeaten 103*, which formed the backbone of their 258 for 3 declared.
Chris Gask (31) and Matt Buttery (32*) also contributing with the bat.
Syed Haider Bukhari (42) top scored for Burslem to go with his two wickets, but was unable to stop his team from being bowled out for 170, despite 34 from skipper Liam Pattison and 38 from Junaid Qureshi.
Craig Sinclair was their chief tormentor picking up 4 for 24, with Gask (2-14) and Derry (2-38) each picking up two wickets.
