Stone Old Alleynians 3-0 Pegasus Juniors

Stone capped off a cracking Easter weekend with an impressive victory over Pegasus Juniors on Easter Monday, despite having to play the last half an hour with ten men.

Alleynians manager Matt Smith was left delighted with the result, which made it three wins in six days for his side: “I’m really pleased with the performance, we played some excellent football and controlled the game. Even going down to ten men didn’t affect that.”

“We played some of our best football this season and you can see that the confidence is back with three wins in a week, which is great way to get back on track. We want to have a strong finish to the season now.” Added Smith.

The hosts started brightly, and took an early lead when the energetic Billy Thorley rounded the keeper and crossed for Danny Heard to head home.

Heard himself came within inches of doubling the lead as he stretched at the far post to reach Matt Thomas’s cross.  Alex Kay also came close to making it two, but his shot went just over the bar when he was afforded space to turn in the box.

Matt Thomas did double the lead though as he struck his right foot shot from the edge of the box beyond Jason Davies in the visitors goal.

The Old Boys should have gone into the break with more of a lead, as Ben Lewis, Kay and Heard all came close.

But the game changed early in the second half when Thomas received a straight red for a tackle on Jake Robinson.

The man advantage gave the visitors a foothold in the game, which had looked beyond them at one stage, but despite seeing an increase in possession they struggled to create any clear cut chances, with substitute Oliver Smith firing over with their best opportunity.

At the other end Alex Kay saw his shot strike the post when he was sent clear. But it was Billy Thorley who made sure of the points. Clever play between Heard and Grant Bigham allowed the latter to cross for Thorley who volleyed home at the far post.
