Wolverhampton Casuals 3-2 Stone Old Alleynians

Poor defending cost the Old Boys dearly as they slipped to a second successive defeat at Wolverhampton Casuals.

Stone started brightly and opened the scoring early on when skipper Paul Griffiths latched on to Ollie Davies’s cross to head home.

But they found themselves under pressure from the hosts shortly after, and were thankful for two saves from keeper Matt Burslem to keep them ahead at the interval.

Burslem saved well when one on one with Jay Holcroft as the striker found himself space in the box, and he came out on top again when the duo resumed their dual, as Holcroft’s header deflected off Burslem’s head and onto the bar.

Ben Lewis was unlucky not to extend the Alleynians lead as hit shot struck the post following Danny Heard’s clever pass to find the wide-man in space.

The hosts did find an equaliser early in the second half, Brad Lewis rose highest to head home a Mark Habbershaw corner.

The Casuals then went ahead as the Old Boys defence failed to deal with a Giles Harvey long ball and Holcroft finally got the better of Burslem as he lobbed the keeper.

Stone got themselves level through Cameron Sinclair, the midfielder’s long-range effort beating Harry Radford.

But the home side secured the points with ten minutes to go. Habbershaw acrobatically helping the ball beyond Burslem, following Holcroft’s knock down from an Ashley Evans cross.
