Eccleshall 1s 97ao (37.5ovs) lost to Caverswall 101/8 (35.1ovs) – Eccleshall 5pts, Caverswall 20pts

Eccleshall finished their season with a disappointing defeat at home to Caverswall.

Cameron Sinclair won the toss and chose to bat, but the skipper was the first man out for 0, when he was bowled by Marlon Martin (2-29).

Chanaka Ekanayake made 16 before he was bowled by Ashley Kent (4-39) as the home side struggled to post a competitive target. Yasser Tariq top-scored for Eccleshall with 39.

Chasing 98 to win, the Caverswall reply got off to a poor start when Sam Linney (2-23) bowled opener Shane McNamara for 0, and then had Jake Edge (13) caught at slip.

Tariq (2-29) then took two wickets to reduce the visitors to 28-4, but captain Nazakat Ali made a patient 33* to see his side home, despite Sinclair’s three for 23.

Eccleshall’s second team game against Leek was abandoned without a ball being bowled, preventing them from challenging Bignall End for the Division 2B title, but finished the season in second place.
