Eccleshall 1st XI 199/8 (55 overs) beat Woore 1st XI 110ao (48.3 overs) – Eccleshall 25pts, Woore 6pts

Eccleshall firsts secured their first win of the season, with an empathic 89-run victory away at Woore.

Winning the toss, Cameron Sinclair chose to bat, but saw his side lose opener Tom Hibbert in the first over, on a tacky pitch that offered a lot of hope to the bowling side.

Myles Coughlan (75) helped to build a platform for the Eccleshall innings with help from Tom Boulton (14) and Yasser Tariq (27), before he was out stumped with the score on 113.

Some late, lusty blows from Jordan Wood (24) and Rob Lakin (33*) helped the visiting side to 199/8 off of their 55 overs.

Opening bowlers Kimany Gregorie (2/14) and Yasser Tariq (5/36) then tore into the Woore line-up, reducing the hosts to 32 for 5, before some counter-attacking batting from Nicholas Reed (25) took them towards bonus point territory.

But Reed skied a catch off the bowling of Coughlan, and then John Culkin’s 111-ball vigil at the crease came to an end when he was dismissed by Sinclair for 25.

The skipper then wrapped up proceedings having Craig Ruscoe caught behind, as Woore were dismissed for 110.

Eccleshall 2nd XI 114ao (45.1 overs) lost to Hem Heath Forsbrook 115/7 (50 overs) – Eccleshall 5pts, Hem Heath Forsbrook 20pts

Eccleshall’s winning start came to an end with a three-wicket defeat at home to Hem Heath Forsbrook.

Captain Paul Cox lost the toss, and was asked to bat, and saw his side dismissed for 114 in just over 45 overs. Andy Parton and Matt Buttery made 21 and 26 respectively.

In reply the visitors lost seven wickets on the way to reaching their target, opener Chris Simpson top scoring with 28, whilst Cox was the pick of the bowlers returning figures of 3 for 14, whilst Dan Lakin took 2 for 32.
